Compost

Goodness for your garden

Made from recycled waste, compost is a fantastic way to feed your soil and use resources that would otherwise go to landfill.  Compost adds valuable organic matter, builds soil texture and feeds soil microbes.

Turning waste into Wonderful!

Compost is made from recycling waste products - food waste, council green waste - etc.

Rather than send these products to landfill, they can be recycled and turned into wonderful food for your garden.

Feeding your soil ensures a healthy biodiversity of microorganisms and worms can do their job - making sure your soil is alive.

A healthy soil means stronger growth, greater pest and disease resistance, and ensures vital nutrients are present in any fruit or vegetables you are going to consume.

COMPOST (the upside of having a breakdown!)

Compost is a great way to recycle unwanted organic matter. Many home gardeners like to make their own compost (see our gardening fact sheet page) and reduce their carbon footprint in doing so.

However, for those that don't have the time or patience to do it themselves, quality, Certified Organic compost can be purchased all year round - ready when you need it.

Due to the volumes we use @ GLSC, our compost products are brought in from large scale, commercial compost manufacturers.  Compost is made to Australian Quality Standards, and the composts we choose are also Certified Organic, so you can be sure they are contaminant free.

The benefits of using compost include:

  • Adding vital nutrients (like nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium etc.)
  • Building soil carbon & organic matter - vastly improving sandy soils.
  • Increased microbial activity
  • Buffering pH levels
  • Increasing the soil's ability to retain nutrients, water and air. This means reduced need for water and fertilisers.

It is best to add compost to the soil and mix it through. If it is allowed to dry out, you will lose some of the benefits and it may simply blow away!

Green Life Soil Company offers home delivery to the Perth Metro Area and surrounding suburbs from the Northern and Western suburbs to as far South as Mandurah.  Call us for a quote on any of our garden products.

  • Bulk Horticultural Compost

    Bulk Horticultural Compost

Certified Organic Horticultural Compost is a great soil improver.  Add to vegie gardens, feed your roses, fruit trees - etc!  This is a fine compost that can also be used for top dressing lawns (although we recommend our Lawn Top Dress as it contains horticultural compost plus more besides!).

Made from a range of clean green waste products, food waste and animal manures, these products go through a controlled process of aerobic composting to become a source of high value carbon. Compost maintains organic carbon levels in your soil to maximise air, water and nutrient availability and keeps beneficial microbes working hard to drive growth and provide natural suppression of pests and disease.

    Benefits of using compost include:

    • Significantly improves soil water storage, reducing plant stress and demand on irrigation.
    • Reduces nutrient leaching and improves uptake efficiency, reducing demand on fertiliser.
    • Maintains soil biological activity for plant health and protection from pests and disease.
    • Improves crop growth and uniformity for better quality and efficiency at harvest.

To use as a soil improver, lay 5-10cms on top of your soil, and lightly incorporate into the top 10 - 20cms (the root zone) of your soil.
